I will respond to your inquiry with 48 hours, often much sooner. We’ll set up a time to talk for you to share more details about what you’re looking for and more details about your child. You know your child’s strengths and challenges best and can provide invaluable insight about how we can best work together.
If you want to move forward, I will send you a copy of the agreement. Once it is signed, I’ll set up our first meeting with your child.
For academic tutoring and coaching, I ask that you share your child’s school portal login and password, so that I can fully appreciate your child’s workload and assignments, upcoming tests, and teacher provided resources. It is essential that I am in concert with your student’s teacher approach.
-
Your child can expect a positive and encouraging environment, When I work with students on assigned homework, I first ask them to explain to me what they understand from their class. This gives me a great idea of what we need to cover and how I can best help your child succeed.
-
Absolutely! Within 48 hours of meeting with your child, you will receive an email, outlining what we covered during our session, along with any questions or concerns I may have.
-
If students have taken the PSAT, I ask parents to share their scores so that I can assess whether I should focus equally on Reading & Writing and Math, or if I the concentration should be more so on one area specifically.
For 1-4 sessions, I currently use Barron’s Digital SAT Study Guide Premium 2025. It can be purchase from a variety of sources, including Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.
For students looking for more comprehensive support, I currently use Erica Meltzer’s SAT Reading 5th Edition and SAT Grammar 6th Edition for SAT Reading & Writing, and 1600.io Volumes I and II. You must purchase these texts ahead of our first meeting. Again, these texts are available through your local book seller or from Amazon. For 5 or more sessions, I will give you a $50 credit toward the purchase of the texts.
Students are provided a proposed schedule based on the number of sessions contracted for. We will progress faster or slower than the proposed timeframes, based on your students comfort.
-
Classes are highly interactive. Students learn by participating in the process; they are encouraged to actively engage by asking questions and offering to assist others as appropriate.
I ask for a $150 non-refundable deposit on group classes, so that I can order material and hold your spot in the class. I currently use Erica Meltzer’s SAT Reading 5th Edition and SAT Grammar 6th Edition for SAT Reading & Writing, and 1600.io Volumes I and II. Once I receive your deposit, I will purchase the texts for you.
Students are emailed a schedule so they know in advance what material will be covered (and therefore which text they should bring with them to class). Students should bring a calculator with them as well for all math sessions.
I also ask students to share their College Board account login and password with me, so I can monitor their progress on practice tests. Each week students are asked to complete either a Reading & Writing section or a Math section, so every two weeks will yield practice test results. Homework is assigned each week and may take 90 minutes to complete. I do not check homework, but students cannot expect to improve their scores if they don’t apply themselves.
There is no refund for missed classes.
-
You are never charged for sessions that you give 24 hours advanced notice of needing to cancel. I ask for 24 hours notice so that I can use your time slot for another student as needed.
I realize emergencies happen and children get sick. You will not be charged in those instances either.

You are more than welcome to contact me with any questions you may have via email or phone.
NOVA Educational Services Agreement 2025
Policies:
1. Sessions
Academic sessions are available 55 minutes, once or twice a week, as scheduling permits.
SAT prep sessions are available for 90 minutes once a week. Parents can contract for any number of 1-on-1 sessions. Classes are 8 sessions.
Essay support for college applications is available in packages. In general, if a student needs help brainstorming ideas for a personal statement, a meeting is held initially to discuss topics. Once a draft is submitted for review, correspondence is handled through the document.
2. Session Locations
Sessions are held at my home in Warrenton or virtually. All college essay support is remote.
3. Expectations
For academic tutoring, students are asked to provide access to their school portal to facilitate my understanding of material. Teaching concepts evolve and it’s important that my services reflect approaches used by the student’s teacher.
Additionally, students are expected to be prepared - they should have all necessary material available (textbooks, handouts, pencils, computers, etc) - and they should be ready to engage.
SAT prep students are expected to have requisite text with them every session. They are expected to complete assigned homework as well. Prepping for the SAT is like any other skills: the more you practice, the better you get. Students who do not complete homework regularly cannot expect their scores to improve. Students are also expected to share their College Board account information with me.
Parents will receive an email within 48 hours of each session to keep them informed of the student’s efforts and progress. Any concerns I have will be communicated in this way. Parents are welcome to call or email me with any concerns or questions.

Parents can sign up for any number of sessions, but to hold a scheduled time slot, all sessions need to be paid for in advance.
No session will be held until payment is received. Additionally, if I do not receive payment by the 5th of the month, you may lose your slot in the schedule; I cannot hold time slots indefinitely.
